Apple TV said to be getting Vevo music video app

Posted on 05:20 by Unknown
Word on the street is that Apple TV owners may soon be able to access Vevo's vast music video library. The free entertainment platform is said to be developing an app for Apple TV that will let users watch music videos 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, according to AdAge.
Vevo launched its service in 2009, which lets users watch music videos from the platform's catalog of more than 50,000 videos. The service offers videos from three of the four major record labels, including Universal, Sony, and the bygone EMI.
Apple TV won't be the first device to get Vevo's service: the platform already has apps for iOS,Android, and Windows mobile devices. It also has apps for the Roku, Xbox Live, and BlackBerry's PlayBook tablet.
In July, Vevo renewed its agreement with Google to ensure the service's music videos stay on YouTube. As part of the deal, Google made an investment in Vevo that was speculated to be between $40 million and $50 million.

Vevo is the third most-watched video site in the U.S., with 52 million viewers for the month of March, according to ComScore. Tops was Google, with 153.9 million viewers, largely through its YouTube operation, and second was Facebook, with 63.8 million viewers.
For its part, Apple TV has been boosting its offerings as of late. In June, the tech giant announced that it was adding HBO Go and ESPN to its set-top box. Apple has also made deals with other third-party streaming services, like Netflix and Hulu Plus.
CNET contacted Apple and Vevo for comment. We'll update the story when we get more information.
